Farmer advisors across the Midwest shared the gaps in materials and trainings needed to help advise producers on all aspects of growing food-grade grains. This report summarizes the focus groups we held in 2025 with farmer advisors from the Great Lakes region.

Scaling up conservation agriculture

Phase 2 findings were published in the Journal of Environmental Quality in a 2022 special section on the soil health – watershed nexus.

In phase 2 (2019-2021) we deeply explored:

What do farmers and farm advisors identify as potential solutions?

New paths forward
